The Friends hold a used book sale located in the Chinn Park Regional Library four times during each calendar year. The proceeds from each of these book sales, along with the profits from the Friendshop, support the programs and services provided by the Chinn Park Regional Library and local Community Libraries.
Aside from funding Library programs and services, our Used Book Sales actively promote reading for both pleasure and purpose, and for all age groups. At a time of inflated book prices, our community can count on the availability of good books that are truly affordable.

DONATE YOUR USED BOOKS To the Chinn Park REgional Library
The books, CDs, records, DVDs, video and audio tapes, and magazines sold at these book sales are surpluses culled from the Library or are donated by you and your neighbors.
If you have books, CDs, tapes or magazines you wish to donate, just bring them to the Information Desk at the Chinn Library. Since you would be making a donation to a public library, you would be entitled to a tax credit, and you may pick up the form at the Information Desk.
USED BOOK SALE AGENDA
Each Used Book Sale follows the same agenda: (except that our July sale is limited to only three days because the Chinn Park Library is closed on Sundays during July):
Between Book Sales: SORTING
The Book Sale inventory is sorted into categories for the convenience of our customers. There are over twenty categories, including Non-fiction (novels), Children, Young Adults, Hobbies and Crafts, Cooking, Computer, Reference, Music and Arts, Movies and Music (DVDs, CDs and tapes), and many more. All of these categories will be sold for one dollar each or less in the Library Community Room. In addition, there are the Specials which are priced individually and will be sold in the Library Lobby outside of the Community Room (Specials are collector's items, complete reference sets, coffee table books, DVD movies and games, etc.). Sorting is performed in the basement of the Library, and is the most essential phase of the entire Book Sale process.
Wednesday: SETUP
Tables are set up in the Chinn Library's Community Room and Lobby, and signs are placed identifying where each category will be located. Then the thousands of books and other items to be sold are brought up from the basement and neatly displayed by category. Thanks to the continuous work of the sorters and a number of setup volunteers, this task is accomplished in just a few hours.
Thursday: MEMBER'S PRE-SALE (5:00 PM to 8:30 PM)
One of the benefits of joining the Friends of Chinn Park Regional Library is that Members have first access to the Sale before the books are picked over. You may join at the Member's Pre-Sale for the modest dues of $5 for individuals (only $3 for seniors) and $10 for family. There are purchase limits imposed at the Pre-Sale, but the limit is more than you will be able to carry.
Friday & Saturday: BOOK SALE (10:00 AM to 4:30 PM)
The Book Sale is open to the public both days with no purchase limit imposed.
Sunday: BAG SALE! (Noon to 3:00 PM)
Fill up a standard grocery store paper shopping bag with books, magazines, CDs or tapes from the Community Room for ONLY $5! Specials are still priced individually, but at half their already bargain basement price. The catch is, that most of the books and nearly all of the CDs and tapes are gone by Sunday. If you are interested in quality, or are looking for a particular author or book, we recommend you join the Friends and attend the Pre-Sale. But, if you are interested in quantity, there is no better deal anywhere than our Sunday afternoon Bag Sales.
July Book Sale (Chinn Library closed Sunday):
Our Saturday Used Book Sale will combine a public sale in the morning with the bag sale in the afternoon.
All of the work that makes these Book Sales a success is performed by volunteers. Would you like to join us and help your community? See our Membership Application.
